A New Year – Let’s Move On!

“And this will we do, if God permit..” – Hebrews 6:3 (KJV)

A New Year always brings anticipation of new things. Many born-again believers in Jesus Christ take time to review the past year and prayerfully consider ways they can make new commitments to the Lord.

The writer of the book of Hebrews was ready for action. He reminds the reader in chapter 6, verses 1-2 that it is time to move on. The believers in Christ have for long enough been content to rehearse the truths of God’s Word and doctrine. He exhorts them now to put into action as mature believers the principles of the new life in Christ.

God is actively at work in the affairs of men on earth. History reveals that His hand is upon His people in good times and bad. And He has called the followers of Christ to action.

We read passages that call us to “put on the new man”, to “shine as the lights” of the world, and to let men “see our good works” and glorify our father in heaven.

That’s a good place for all believers to begin in the New Year. Let us do more for the Lord in the coming year than we have done before.  We should begin right away because we do not know how many more days we will have to do so. Let us begin to show forth His righteousness and salvation, which we have been blessed to receive, making this our first and foremost duty. For it is not only our duty, but our privilege!

Let’s tell the good news of His love and what He has done for us, let’s spread the tidings round that He is our Help in ages past and our Hope for years to come as we begin our New Year. Let’s go in His strength as we face the challenges of the new, recalling His presence with us in the past. He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us and to guide and direct us as we look to Him for our help.

Let us speak often of His righteousness. Telling how He laid down His life for the forgiveness of sins, let us shout of our Mighty God who became sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God.

If you’d like to learn more about New Life in Christ and living for Jesus in 2018, join us for our services at the church on Sundays at 11 AM and 6 PM and Wednesday Nights at 7 PM.

We look forward to seeing you soon and pray that you will have a very Happy New Year!
