“Keep Building Church!”

Some years ago a young lad lived along the Atlantic coast and on almost every day made the coastline his playground. He had a giant backyard and a big sand box. Often for hours he would play in the sand building big sandcastles. Sometimes an entire Saturday would be spent building. Usually about the time he would be putting the finishing touches on his work of art, a group of bullies would appear running down the beach. Those older, bigger kids would first scare him away and then begin kicking away the sand and destroying his castle. For weeks this happened he would build, they would appear, he would run, and they would demolish his work. But one day he decided that he would fix it so they wouldn’t prevail. He brought a couple of cement blocks and some bricks to build his foundation upon and then he covered the sides with sand and then build on up as he had done before. Sure enough later in the afternoon, the local toughs appeared. He scooted off into the dunes and watched as they all at once began kicking at his sandcastle. But the results were different ….as the bare feet of those mean boys kicked, they found they were no match for those cement blocks and bricks.  While they lay in the sand or hopped around, moaning, the sand artist just smiled and went on home. Never again did anyone try to destroy his sandcastles.

God teaches us in His Word that, upon this Rock (Christ Himself), He will build the church and not even the gates of hell will prevail against it. (Matt. 16:18)

Many people see the church is grave peril today from a variety of dangers: secularism, politics, heresies, and plain old sin, but those are like bare feet kicking against rocks. But Christ has promised and regardless of who or what comes out to try to stop you or the church of Jesus Christ, they will find it hard to kick against the Rock!  Oh they may kick once or twice, but they cannot prevail.

He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  He is the Door to enter in to safety and the Door to keep the wolves out; He is the good Shepherd to lay down His life for the sheep and protect the sheepfold. He is the Water of life for those who are thirsty and the Bread of life for those who are hungry; He is the Son of God and He is the Lord!
